Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Utrecht
Utrecht is a wonderful kid-friendly city, with many different amenities for children such as parks, playgrounds, stores, and restaurants. In the next few blogposts, we will focus on different kid-friendly spots in Utrecht for kids, in these four categories. We hope that if you’re new to the city in which we (Näpp) are based, this will be a helpful guide to navigating the city with kids – whether you’re a Näppsitter or a parent.
This week, we will be going over some of the best kid-friendly restaurants in Utrecht. We know that the Dutch “cuisine” isn’t for everyone, and that pancakes, french fries, and frikandellen isn’t the ideal healthy choice every time. That’s why we have created a list of all the kid-friendly restaurants in Utrecht, and you may test them out for yourself!
All Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Utrecht
Not just normal hotdogs, but fancy, decorated, and diverse hot dogs that you can also find vegetarian or vegan versions of. It’s a good way to sneak in some extra veggies and nutrients into a lunch or dinner that tastes like a fun treat!
A restaurant with a really “home-y” approach, considering the restaurant as Jozef’s kitchen and living room, including a nice play area of kids while they wait for the food to come out. The menu offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a large variety for children to choose from.
Bagels and Beans, Mariaplaats
The Bagels and Beans has a very child-friendly, fairly healthy, and adaptable menu, and the one on Mariaplaats offers a toys, paper and pencils to draw, and the kids can play outside while you sit on the terrace. The bagels and beans just up the street from there also has a small play area inside for the kids.
Rechtbank, Vrouwe Justitiaplein
A perfect kid-friendly restaurant for sunny days in the weekend, complete with outside toys, in addition to keeping it safe with a fence around the yard. The Rechtbank offers a great menu that you will love, and offers simple but delicious options that the kids will love!
Camping Ganspoort, Helling 87
This restaurant is perfect for a nice brunch on the weekends and breakfast in the mornings, and a really nice play corner with tons of toys. The kids menu is diverse and doesn’t just offer the regular french fries or pasta; it offers toasties, peanut butter jelly sandwiches, or the infamous toast with hagelslag.
Buurten in de Fabriek, Kanaalweg
This restaurant is more of an activity to do with the kids, because it comes with a library and a theater, therefore turning your breakfast, lunch, or dinner into a fun day-trip with the family. The kids menu is much bigger than your usual kids menu at other restaurant, showing that this place is very focused on children having a good time!
Restaurant The Kitchen in De Beijenkorf
The menu at The Kitchen is very adaptable for children, and includes many treats that kids will love – though it is on the pricier side. There is also a nice playing area right by the restaurant, and of course you can enjoy some high-end shopping while you’re here!
Bij Guusjes, Van ‘s-Gravesandestraat
In a calmer area of Utrecht right outside of the centre (walking distance), lots of new and cute restaurants and coffee places are popping up, like this one here. With a warm and home-y atmosphere, this restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with in-and-outdoor seating. The restaurant welcomes kids with their usual menu, offering adaptable options kids will love.
Meneer Peer, Bemuurde Weerd Oostzijde
This restaurant only offers lunch, but the playful and light atmosphere make it perfect for that time of day. Offering a diverse menu catering to all types of diets, including gluten free, soy-free, and vegan. They also have a play area for kids, and the staff is very open to making small changes to the dishes the kids desire.
Balijepark Restaurant, Augustusweg
For a fancier, culinary experience, that is still not too formal this restaurant is the place to go. A culinary hotspot in Utrecht, this restaurant offers 3,4,5, or even 6 course seasonal meals both you and the kids will love. The kids will also love the little garden by the restaurant!
De Moestuin, Laan van Maarschalkerweerd
This organic lunch-restaurant has a whole playground, healthy organic food, and they even sell some of their ingredients! You will be eating in the middle of refreshing greenery, and enjoying fresh food that changes with the seasons.
Restaurant De Kleine Baron, Sweder van Zuylenweg
One of the most “gezellig” restaurants in Utrecht, and perfect for a birthday party or a nice walk in Julianapark after your meal. They don’t have a kids menu, but their menu is catered towards their younger guests and they will make the dishes smaller so no food goes to waste!
Centraal Museum Cafe, Nicolaaskerkhof
Along with the museum of course, there is a really nice garden outside to enjoy some lunch, including a slide that the kids will love. The kids menu is specialized towards the museum as well, we highly recommend the Nijntje pancakes!
