The Netherlands’ beautiful landscapes, range from beaches to forests and heaths. As Summer rolls in, we have compiled a selection of memorable destinations for a Summer holiday in the Netherlands. Beach, Beach, Beach!

Firstly, the obvious; beach. The Netherlands’ long coastline offers up a lot of beaches. For a true taste of Summer, visit the beaches of the Waddeneilanden (Wadden Islands) on the northern coast of the Netherlands. These include Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.Famed for its beer, Texel is also reputed to be the best destination for kids. It provides lots of family-friendly attractions, such as SEA Life & Ecomare. Additionally, Texel naturally offers a lot of options of spending your summer outdoors – on the beach, cycling & hiking routes, bird-watching and locally-sourced bbqs!

 

 

Wildlife & Nature…

Zeeland creates interest in animals for kids, as this destination is famed for seal-watching, spotting deer, eagles and porpoises. See the wildlife from the shoreline or book a boat tour, that brings you around the local sites and points out wildlife.

Tip: some cruise companies offer a “family cruise,” which is shorter, and entertains children!

Once you’ve grown tired of the sight of seals sunbathing, hop on a bike or hiking route. These have a variety of difficulties – something for everyone. Shopping is also possible for those who like to kick back on vacation!

Heading South!

Lastly, the zuidhollandse kust includes the metropolis Den Haag, and other beloved family holiday destinations. Ouddorp’s coast is ranked as the nicest beaches in the Netherlands, which is only trumped by their “Most Sustainable Coastal Destination Worldwide” award from Green Destination. It has a “familiebadplaats” making it a great destination for families. Ouddorp, and its stellar reputation draws in large crowds every year.

However, if you prefer a quieter location to spend your summer, Rockanje might better suit your family. Even in the high season, Rockanje doesn’t see the crowds Ouddorp does, while still offering lots of opportunities to spend the summer outdoors!
