Meet the Näppfamily, Satu & her family
Today we meet the Näppfamily that is very special to me: this is the family where I started to babysit when I moved to the Netherlands. They were my inspiration for Näpp, and I am forever grateful that I have been able to be their babysitter already for almost three years!
Introduce yourself!
“My name is Satu, I am 44 years old and I come from Finland. I have lived in The Netherlands
for almost 18 years now and this autumn, I am getting married to a Dutch guy, with whom I
live in Utrecht.
My education background is in pharmacy and I am currently working as an independent
consultant/project manager. I sing in a choir, love walking, and yoga..and pizza. I also write and
blog in Finnish.
How many children do you have?
I am a mother of a 3.5-year-old, adorable and temperamental little girl, who loves chocolate,
ice cream, dancing, swimming, and trains, amongst other things. She is bilingual and speaks
Finnish and Dutch. She goes to a Dutch daycare for two days and two mornings a week. I speak
Finnish with her; while my fiancée speaks Dutch with her, but when we are all together we
speak Dutch.
Why is having a culturally connected babysitter important for you and your
family?
It is important to me that our daughter learns Finnish and can communicate with her
grandparents and cousins when we are in Finland. I work almost full time and it is, therefore,
good that there is another person spending time with our daughter and speaking Finnish.
Furthermore, I am happy that Loviisa and myself have the same cultural background, so she
knows what different Finnish traditions mean and how important they are. And the most
important quality in a babysitter is that he/she truly enjoys being with the little kids who
can sometimes be a handful!
How did you find out about Näpp?
I found out about Näpp from its founder Loviisa when it was still only an idea of hers. We
were lucky to have met Loviisa when our daughter was only 9 months old and Loviisa had
just moved to the Netherlands. She has been babysitting our daughter ever since and we are
very happy with her! I have recommended Näpp to many people and would certainly
use it if I needed another babysitter for our daughter.
What is your favourite thing about Näpp?
My favorite thing about Näpp is that it is so easily accessible and that it has been built with
a true passion for spending time with and taking care of children. And even though we have
only had one Näppsitter (Loviisa) we have been very happy with her. Well, look at the picture of our daughter together with her – I could not describe their special connection better than the pictures do.”
